"AJ Styles Skips WWE Creative to Shape Future Stars at Developmental"
When AJ Styles hung up his boots at the 2026 Royal Rumble after a career ending loss to Gunther, everyone wondered what "The Phenomenal One" would do next.
Backstage producer? Creative writer? Turns out, Styles tried both doors and walked away from each of them pretty quickly.
Triple H revealed on Cody Rhodes' podcast that Styles spent time exploring both creative and production avenues within WWE before deciding that neither felt right for him.
The Game was refreshingly open about the whole thing, sharing how AJ genuinely wanted to stay connected to the wrestling world just not in the ways most people assumed he would.
Finding the Right Fit Behind the Curtain
"AJ came in, he sat in on some creative meetings, he sat in on some production meetings, and I think he realized, woof, the writing thing is not for me.
The producer thing I don't think is for me," Triple H explained. That kind of self awareness is honestly rare in this business. A lot of legends retire and force themselves into roles that simply don't suit them. Styles didn't do that.
What actually excited AJ was working with younger wrestlers spotting raw talent, identifying that small spark, and helping build it into something that could carry the company forward.
That developmental side of WWE is where Triple H believes Styles belongs, and the company is fully committed to placing him there.
What makes this story even more interesting is what Triple H shared about Styles' mindset in his final days as an active competitor.
Even during his last match, Styles admitted he was mentally done standing in the ring thinking about just getting through it and reaching the finish line. There was no dramatic hesitation about retiring. His heart had already left before his body did.
Triple H has previously compared Styles' potential impact on developmental talent to what Shawn Michaels has built in NXT which is high praise by any measure. Michaels transformed NXT into a genuine talent pipeline. If Styles brings even half of that energy to scouting and mentoring, WWE's future generation is in serious hands.
