"Roman Reigns kept the title at Backlash. Jacob Fatu kept the momentum. Here's why the Samoan Werewolf is the most dangerous man in WWE right now."
Roman Reigns walked out of Tampa still holding the belt, but nobody in that building believed he was truly in control.
The World Heavyweight Champion survived only because he ripped a turnbuckle pad off behind the referee's back and drove Jacob Fatu face-first into exposed steel.
That's not dominance. That's desperation from a man who had no other answer left.
Fatu delivered a star-making performance despite losing his first world title match, and Reigns having virtually no answers resorted to underhanded tactics to steal the win.
Even in defeat, Fatu looked like the most dangerous person in WWE, and appears to have Reigns on the run heading into the summer.
Knoxville Got the Answer Nobody Expected
Two nights later, WWE tried to wrap this up cleanly with an Acknowledgment Ceremony on Raw in Knoxville, Tennessee. The plan was simple Fatu lost, so now he bows to the Tribal Chief.
Fatu had a different plan entirely.
Backstage, Jey Uso warned Fatu not to go through with confronting Reigns, stressing that he would only create more problems for himself and the family.
Fatu responded with headbutts that put Uso down in Gorilla Position, then stared into the camera and promised Reigns would have to beat acknowledgment out of him.
He then took out Jimmy Uso on the ramp without breaking stride.
Once inside the ring, Reigns grabbed a chair and hammered Fatu repeatedly, demanding acknowledgment with every shot.
Fatu absorbed it, hit a superkick, locked in the Tongan Death Grip, and powerbombed Reigns through the announcer's table. Referees, producers, and GM Adam Pearce all rushed out. None of them could stop it.
Jacob Fatu then held the World Heavyweight Championship over the fallen champion's body and still did not acknowledge him.
Walking back up the ramp, he turned around, sprinted back down at full speed, and drove both Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns through the barricade to end the show.
That's three straight weeks of Fatu standing tall over the man who supposedly ended his title run.
For the third straight week, Raw closed with Jacob Fatu standing over a fallen Roman Reigns. Roman had publicly declared Backlash was Fatu's last night in WWE yet here he was, completely untouchable.
The championship picture heading toward Clash in Italy now looks nothing like what WWE originally scripted. Reigns holds the title on paper. Fatu owns the momentum, the crowd reaction, and the closing image of every show he appears on.
One man has the gold. The other has everything else.
